Why you should never hesitate to reach out to your doula.

Dear expecting parents,

Congratulations on this beautiful journey into parenthood! As a trauma-informed pregnancy, birth, and postpartum doula, I am here to support and empower you every step of the way. One of the most crucial aspects of our partnership is fostering a safe and trusting environment where you never need to hesitate before reaching out to me with your concerns, questions, or decisions. Ever.

Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are transformative phases in a person's life. They come with their joys and challenges, and it's natural to feel a myriad of emotions during this time. As your doula, my primary goal is to create a nurturing and non-judgmental space where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. This goes for you as the pregnant person but also for your partner.

Here are a few reasons why you should always feel comfortable reaching out to me:

  1. Non-judgmental Support: No concern or question is too small or insignificant. Whether you need advice on nutrition during pregnancy, want to discuss birth preferences, you have questions about an upcoming appointment or something was said to you at your last appointment. You may simply need someone to listen to your fears or concerns, I am here for you. I recognize the uniqueness of your journey and will provide support tailored to your individual needs.

  2. Evidence-based Information: The internet is flooded with information, some of which may be misleading or fear-inducing. As a trauma-informed doula, I will provide you with evidence-based information and resources to empower you to make informed decisions that align with your values and preferences.

  3. Emotional Support: Pregnancy and the postpartum period can trigger a range of emotions. From excitement and happiness to anxiety and uncertainty, each emotion is valid and deserving of compassionate understanding. You can confide in me without fear of judgment, knowing that your emotions will be acknowledged and honoured.

  4. Advocacy: Your voice matters, and I am here to amplify it. Whether it's communicating your birth preferences to medical professionals or navigating any challenges during the postpartum period, I will advocate for your rights and desires while respecting your autonomy.

  5. Postpartum Care: The postpartum period is often referred to as the "fourth trimester," and it comes with its unique set of physical and emotional adjustments. Feel free to connect with me about anything related to postpartum healing, infant care, or any concerns you may have during this time.

Remember, this journey is about you, your partner, and your growing family. My role is to provide unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement while ensuring that your choices and decisions are honoured and respected. As a trauma-informed doula, I am sensitive to the challenges and experiences you may have faced, and I am committed to creating a safe and empowering space for you.

So, let's embark on this journey together, embracing the power of communication, trust, and understanding. Don't hesitate to reach out – I am just a call, message, or visit away.

With warmth and dedication,

Amy - Trauma-Informed Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum Doula
